BeMyEye Has Its Eyes on Italy

A company may wish to check all the stores selling its product to make sure a new display receives prominent placement. It is expensive for company management to travel to all stores, so for a low price, they can hire people already near store sites to perform that simple task.

The Italian startup BeMyEye can help businesses find out when their product or display actually appears in each store, perform barcode scans, price checks, take photos or videos, or complete other specified tasks and comparisons.

?BeMyEye is an innovative tool for crowdsourcing store checks and mystery shopping,? Gian Luca Petrelli, co-founder and CEO, told RESCUECOM. ?We developed two applications. The first is a website used by companies wanting to get visual information from the field. From the website, a company can build what we call a ?Job,? a questionnaire that can be posted identically on x number of locations. The second application is an iPhone app used by mobile workers throughout Italy that we call Eyes. An Eye ? after passing a selection procedure ? can pick a Job, go to the target coordinates, check in, complete the Job, including the requested pictures, and upload the data. The company receives the completed Jobs from multiple locations in a unique control panel.?

Other potential Jobs suggested on the website include verification that signs are in place for an event, road sign inspection, billboard postings or videos of special events.

Someone who plans to purchase real estate in Italy can also send Eyes to look at various properties and report back.

?We launched the service in July 2012 in a public beta and in cooperation with some primary companies in Fast Moving Consumer Goods,? Petrelli noted. ?Since July we have posted about 10,000 Jobs, but we consider this a very tiny number compared to what the service can do. At this moment we have 2,707 Eyes. An interesting stat is that, on average, if we post a Job on x number of locations, we receive the first 50 percent within 12 hours.?

Petrelli added, ?The service is important for our customers as it provides information from the field:

  • at a very low cost (5 to 8 euros each)
  • very fast (two to four days)
  • at the same time from thousands of locations
  • the results are certified by several controls such as a GPS check-in
  • the output comes in real time in an Excel file that includes a link to see pictures.?

If you are completing a BeMyEye Job onsite and have a problem with your electronic device, remember that companies such as RESCUECOM offer remote computer repair and computer support by phone every day of the year.

Although the service is available only in Italy now, Petrelli says he hopes to expand to other European nations in the next few months.

Keep an eye on BeMyEye!
