Goal Setting For The New Year ? Self Improvement

Goal Setting For The New Year

I never really liked the term coined ?new year?s resolution.?? There just seems something about it that doesn?t appear to be permanent.? I don?t think resolution is the word to use anyway.? How about goal or goal setting.? Doesn?t that sound more attainable?? Something you can grasp?? I mean we do have to admit that 95% of the 45% of the population that made a new year resolution this year, won?t make it past the end of January before they quit or forget about their resolution.? But what if I could share with you a concept that could guaranttee that you would have success by using goal setting this new year instead of a resolution?

Mind boggling isn?t it?? Speaking of minds, it?s interesting how our minds work.? When we set out at the new year to make a change, we mean it from the bottom of our hearts.? But most of us don?t know how to go any further than that or are not prepared.? Goal setting can change that completely around.? The key to having a successful resolution this year or any year is to be prepared and equipped.? So here are some concepts of goal setting that you may know or not know, but they will prepare and equip you to have success in your resolution or any aspect of life for that matter.? There might be a few secret tips in there as well.

One of the most important steps in goal setting is knowing your goal.? What I mean by that is not just, ?I want to lose weight,? or ?I want to become rich.?? You should know your goal so well you dream of it in detail.? You can describe every aspect it.? You breathe it, drink it, eat it and live it.? It has to be so part of you that you think it IS a part of you.? Having a strong connection with your goal and knowing it well is important.
Once you know your goal, write it down.? It is a proven fact that those who write their goals down are much more likely to get to their goals than those who don?t.
When writing your goal, be as specific as possible.? The more specific it is, the more real it is to you.? For example: Instead of saying you want to lose weight, say you want to lose 30 lbs. by June 1, 2011.? This tells you exactly where you want to go and even gives you a deadline, which will motivate you even more to meet your goal.
Now that you have your end goal down, you need to break it down into small steps.? One of the biggest mistakes people make is setting a goal and then trying to do it all at once and get overwhelmed.? That leads to quitting, which is not what we want.? Breaking the main goal down into small easy tasks or goals makes it much easier to reach your final goal, and you are most likely not to quit.? For example:? Looking at the losing weight goal again.? You want to lose 30 lbs in six months.? That would be 5 lbs a month, 1 1/4 lbs a week, which would be about 0.17 lbs a day to reach your goal.? That is very attainable!

?

Now that you have your goals all set there is only one thing left to do.? Take action.? If you don?t take action on what you plan, nothing will be accomplished.
