Stress is a response to stimuli from your environment. It comes from your perception that something is causing change to the status quo. Put another way, stress causes changes in your body that are physical and psychological. The effects of stress can vary by situation and by individual. The body reacts as if it is in immediate danger, while stress gets prolonged, longer term functions are sacrificed. The immune system effectiveness is lowered and the body becomes an easier target for infections and viruses. Other areas that can be impaired are learning, judgment and memory as the brain focuses on working over the immediate problem.

Physically you may feel the effects of stress and anxiety with tight muscles and other aches and pains. Stress points tend to concentrate in the back, neck and shoulders. These areas become very tight as the muscles are held in a stressed position. As the muscles are flexed over long periods of time they become tight and fatigued.
