Some of the theatres, for example the Winter Garden, are vintage homes. After cats closed its nineteen-year run there, the inside of the house was restored to what it seemed like in the 1920s. Afraid of social situations involving alcohol?

I am 23, and have never had a sip of alcohol (other than beer/wine tasting as a child). I have an extreme fear of being in social situations where people my age are drinking. I haven?t had any bad experiences with alcohol or drunks. I don?t have any major symptoms but sometimes do have an increased heart-rate. Mostly, I am uncomfortable and I stare uncontrollably at the glass/bottle and the person drinking. Even hearing a drinking story or that someone is drinking and I am not around gives me negative feelings.

I?ve never worried about it too much ? I just stayed away from those who drank and tried hard to tune out/ignore any stories about drinking. However, I am now dating the most amazing man. He enjoys a beer every now and then with friends. He is responsible about it. But those negative feelings are there, and it makes him feel guilty.

Does anyone know of anything that might help?

I felt the same thing as you, and never tried a drop of alcohol until I was 20. This answer is going to sound terrible to you, but I am being sincere when I say to consider giving some alcohol a try. I don?t mean a lot, just something small and smooth or sweet. My first drink was a fuzzy navel. Be sure you are not driving that evening since you do not know how you will react yet.

Limit yourself to one drink or a half a drink if you are nervous about it. I know that it gives you negative feelings to even think of doing this, but until you experience it for yourself, you really do not have practical experience to base these feelings on.

You may decide drinking is not for you, or you may decide it?s OK to have one or two drinks. Perhaps you will be able to lose grip of these feelings you now have and see that they were unfounded. If you could do that, you would probably begin to feel more comfortable in social situations where alcohol may be present. This does not mean you have to drink everywhere you go. That is always your choice.

Truthfully, for me I can say that drinking is something I can take or leave. I have one drink a month, maybe two, but I certainly do not fear it.

Good luck from someone who has been there.
